Our Craft

From Natural Stone to Finished Form

Every Marble Trays piece begins with the character of the stone and moves through a considered process of selection, planning, shaping, finishing and inspection.

Our approach combines material awareness, precise fabrication and careful hand-finishing to create trays with balanced proportions, refined edges and lasting purpose.

Material Awareness

Craft Begins with Understanding the Material

Natural stone cannot be treated like a visually uniform manufactured sheet. Every slab carries its own veining, colour movement, mineral markings and structural characteristics.

The craftsmanship process begins by understanding those qualities and planning the product around them, including the available usable area, vein direction, product orientation and intended finish.

The objective is not to make every stone piece look identical. It is to reveal the material clearly through considered shape, proportion and finish.

From Stone to Object

How a Marble Tray Is Made

A considered sequence keeps material character, proportion, finishing and the approved specification connected from the first review through final presentation.

01

Understanding the Requirement

The product type, use, dimensions, shape, material, finish, edge profile, hardware, personalisation and delivery requirements are reviewed against the applicable product or bespoke specification.

02

Selecting the Stone

Available stone is reviewed for colour, vein direction, pattern movement, natural features, structural suitability and enough usable area for the intended form.

Planning the Layout stage in the Marble Trays craftsmanship process
03

Planning the Layout

The layout considers product orientation, visible stone movement, rim position, handles, engraving, available dimensions and coordination between matching pieces.

Final Inspection and Presentation

The completed piece is reviewed for product, material, dimensions, edge quality, surface finish, stability, details, cleanliness and suitable packaging preparation.

Handled Internally

One Standard, Clearly Coordinated

Different stages may be completed internally, supported by specialist equipment or coordinated with approved fabrication support. Work is reviewed against the agreed product or bespoke specification.

Handled Internally

Stages completed directly through the Marble Trays operation or internal workshop process.

Specialist Supported

Specialist equipment or technical support is used where the material or operation requires it.

Coordinated and Inspected

Specialist-supported work is coordinated and reviewed against the approved specification.

Finishing Detail

Where Precision Meets the Hand

Precision tools establish the form while careful finishing refines edges, corners, surfaces and transitions that influence how the piece looks and feels.

Proportion

Designed Beyond Dimensions

Rim height, stone thickness, inner usable area, corner radius, handle projection and visual weight work together to shape a balanced tray.

Natural Character or Craftsmanship Concern?

Natural stone is expected to vary. A concern may require assessment when the completed product materially differs from its approved specification or shows instability or unfinished work.

Usually Natural Character

  • Unique veining and pattern movement
  • Shade and colour movement
  • Mineral markings and crystalline areas
  • Natural pores or small fissures
  • Variation from photography or samples
  • Different vein placement between pieces

May Require Assessment

  • Incorrect approved dimensions
  • Loose handle or unstable foot
  • Unfinished or sharp unintended edge
  • Incorrect approved finish
  • Incorrect engraving or placement
  • Structural break or serious instability
